Where is Silverband Falls?

Silverband Falls is on the outskirts of the town of Halls Gap in the Grampians National Park. Moreover, the waterfall is actually within the town of Bellfield, but many visitors tend to head over from Halls Gap to visit the location.

Furthermore, it’s nice and easy to reach, with only a 10-minute drive along Grampians Road before turning off onto the road to reach the waterfall. Google Maps will be able to give you accurate directions to reach the location.

In terms of getting directions to this location, I would recommend heading towards the car park of the falls so that you can get to the closest driveable location. From there, you can follow the signage and take the short wander over to the falls.

Address: Silverband Falls, Silverband Rd, Bellfield VIC 3381

Why Is Silverband Falls Unique?

Silverband Falls is easily one of the most unique waterfalls that I’ve come across, and not just in the Grampians. Moreover, this waterfall is different to others as there isn’t a pool at the base of the waterfall.

Typically, most waterfalls collect a bunch of water at the base and it creates a beautiful pool effect. Well, Silverband has its own unique magic.

There are a number of medium-sized and small rocks at the base of the falls, and the water trickles below them and filters out to the stream further down the way. It’s a pretty spectacular sight to see and a bit of an unusual phenomenon.

Finally, there isn’t a huge flow of water, but it seems to stay pretty consistent year-round. Therefore making it a reliable waterfall to check out any time of year.

Best Time of Year to Visit the Waterfall

As said in the previous section, the waterfall is quite reliable year-round. So, you should be able to catch this waterfall flowing during any time of the year you plan to visit.

However, I think the best time of year to visit this waterfall would be during February and March. Moreover, this is when the weather is warmest and most consistent.

And, you can even enjoy a splash in the water to cool yourself down if it’s a warm day. Not to mention, there will be far fewer tourists and children will be back at school. You might just get the place all to yourself!

Signage and walking trail towards Silverband Falls

The Silverband Falls Experience

The waterfall experience begins when you park your vehicle in the parking space provided. From there, you can follow the signage (a green and narrow signpost) towards the beginning of the waterfall.

The sign will indicate that you have a 0.8km (one-way) journey to complete. The trail is nice and easy to wander along and is quite wide making it an excellent location for families or groups.

Follow the gravel trail and cross over the bridge continuing along upstream towards the waterfall. Moreover, the water from the falls runs from Dairy Creek, be sure to pop your head around the bushes and check out the small stream trickling through the area.

Soon, you will arrive at the waterfall after wandering over a few small slopes and now is your time to enjoy the majestic space. The waterfall feels as though it’s nestled into the surrounding bushland and it’s a very peaceful space to relax.

If it’s a hot day, you may like to go up to the waterfall and lie back in to it. You can enjoy the water rushing over your shoulders and cool down in the refreshing stream. Unfortunately, there is no pool at the base for a swim, but this is definitely what makes the waterfall unique!

After you’ve spent some time enjoying the peaceful area, you can make your way back to your vehicle using the same track you came in on. All up, this adventure shouldn’t take longer than an hour.

Additional Activities in the Grampians

There are loads of great things you can do while visiting the Grampians. From some of the best lookouts to chasing waterfalls, you’re bound to find an activity you enjoy doing.

Firstly, I highly recommend giving the camping experience a go when visiting this national park. Moreover, there are a couple of awesome campgrounds where you can stay for a few days. Besides, what’s better than waking up with kangaroos and enjoying the sounds of nature?

And, for those of you that like to push yourself, you may want to consider giving the Hollow Mountain hike a crack. Moreover, this is one of the toughest trails I’ve completed but it was easily one of the most enjoyable!

Finally, check out some of the restaurants in Halls Gap and devour some of the best food in town! There are loads of tasty meals on offer and you will love working your way through the different eateries.

On the other hand, you may like to check out some tours on offer within the Grampians region. Be sure to consider these tours when visiting the national park.

Wrapping Up

In conclusion, Silverband Falls is a lovely activity to add to your itinerary and it’s an awesome place to visit for any and all travellers. The walk is sweet and short so kids won’t get frustrated and there are plenty of nice plants and things to look at along the way.

I highly recommend visiting this spot as it’s a lovely addition and one of my favourite under-the-radar spots in the Grampians. Typically, most tourists want to go for the biggest and best attractions, so this place can often be missed by a lot of travellers.

Nonetheless, it’s an awesome spot for a short wander and I thoroughly enjoyed my visit!
