One of the best things to do in Torquay is to learn how to surf. Torquay is a fantastic place for those learning to surf and Go Ride a Wave is a great company to teach you the ins and outs of riding the surf.

Besides, this is the perfect opportunity to get out into the water and try your hand at riding a surfboard. I recommend booking with them in advance to secure your position in class!

  1. Visit the Australian National Surfing Museum

Celebrate the world of surfing at this magnifcient museum in Torquay. Firstly, there are over 150 surfboards on display showing the history of surfing compared to modern day creations.

Not to mention, there are numerous trophies on display from some of the worlds biggest competitions. Finally, discover more about the culture of surfing and why it plays such a huge role in Torquay.

I think it’s fair to say that the Torquay surf factory outlets are easily one of the best places to shop in Torquay. Besides, one of the best things to do in Torquay is to pick up some cheap surf or snow gear at one of the well-known retailers.

Take yourself for a short drive out of town to visit the world-renowned Bells Beach. Moreover, this is a great spot for tourists and locals to visit and is a surfing hotspot.

If you happen to come here at the right time of year, you will get to watch the surfing competition, the Rip Curl Pro. Furthermore, this surf competition brings in some of the world’s best surfers and typically runs during mid-April.

Nonetheless, it’s great to watch any surfers ride the waves all year round. There are plenty of people that like to throw themselves out there to experience the perfect breaks of this incredible beach.

Keep in mind, this isn’t a safe beach for swimming. Save your dip for one of Torquay’s local surf beaches!

However, please note that this location gets rather busy, especially during the peak summer period. Therefore, I highly recommend booking a table to avoid disappointment! Nonetheless, enjoy some of the tasty local brews on tap and grab a few of their share plates for an afternoon snack.

  1. Wander along the Surf Coast Walk

There is a lovely and easy walking trail from the Torquay Promenade to Point Danger, which makes up part of the Surf Coast Walk along the Great Ocean Road.

This is easily one of the best things to do in Torquay as it gets you out, exploring and exercising while enjoying the beautiful scenery and ocean views. Besides, there are playgrounds for children along the way, and it’s the ultimate Saturday morning activity.

You can continue wandering along the walking path from the Surf Coast Walk to reach the Torquay war memorial. Moreover, this memorial piece is right on the tip of Point Danger and is easily accessible by car or foot.

Furthermore, this is a beautiful place to pay your respects to the fallen soldiers or World War One and Two. Take a moment to read the plaque and enjoy the stunning scenery around the monument.
