Is Sailors Falls Dog Friendly?
Yes! Dogs are allowed at Sailors Falls, however, they must be kept on a leash at all times. Also, please avoid your dog getting close to wildlife and always clean up after them. Nonetheless, this is an appreciable outing for both man and beast, and your four-legged friend is bound to love the adventure.
Also, to get a few more steps in, I’d recommend taking the Sailors Falls loop walk. Moreover, it’s a fantastic way to get some additional physical activity in for your dog (and, of course, yourself)!
How to Get To Sailors Falls
Sailors Falls is easily accessible with a small dirt car park right beside the waterfall. You will find this lovely little spot along Ballan-Daylesford Road. It should take roughly 8 minutes if you’re visiting from Daylesford and is the perfect stopover if you’re coming from Melbourne.
Moreover, the waterfall is roughly 6km south of Daylesford and is situated in the Hepburn Regional Park. Upon reaching the carpark, there is space for about 20 cars. Please park in the designated area and keep the highway clear at all times.
Once you’ve parked your vehicle, head towards the signage and enjoy your first peek of the waterfall. From there, you will need to use the metal staircase to reach the base of the falls. There’s a lining over an area of the steps to make it more comfortable for dogs.
I would recommend spending at least an hour here to enjoy the serenity of the area.
Note: There is no access to the base of the waterfall for wheelchairs and prams. However, there is a viewing platform along the metal staircase.

The Best Time of Year to Visit
The best time of year to visit this location is during or after the wet season. Moreover, this typically ranges from winter to spring. Besides, it’s expected that the waterfall will dry up during the summer and warm months; Therefore resulting in little to no water flow.
I visited this waterfall in late spring after a few days of rain, and the waterfall was flowing beautifully. So, if you would prefer to attend this waterfall in summer or happen to be in the Daylesford region around that time of year, check if there is any rain around as this will increase your chances of seeing the marvellous cascade.

The Facilities
It’s crucial to be prepared when heading to a new location, and knowing what facilities are onsite can ensure a much smoother and comfortable experience.
Unfortunately, there is no swimming at the waterfall as the base is covered in large rocks. However, you can climb some of the rocks and get close to the base, making it a perfect way to enjoy the refreshing mist on a warm day.
Nonetheless, be mindful of the slippery rocks and avoid climbing after heavy rain.

While visiting this charming location, I’d recommend some further exploring by trekking the Mineral Springs Loop Walk. Also, it’s much more rewarding to accomplish this track before visiting the waterfall.
Firstly, you will need to head down the metal staircase and follow the path straight ahead instead of taking a left to the waterfall.
Continue wandering along the trail for roughly 1.9km until you loop back to the waterfall. Then, enjoy the stunning sights of the waterfall and use the short track to head back towards the staircase.
Nonetheless, there is plenty of signage making it easy to navigate the track.

Since this waterfall is close to Daylesford, there are several activities you can enjoy while in the area. Not to mention, this location is the perfect day trip from Melbourne or a short weekend getaway.
