Everything You Need to Know About Pongour Waterfall

How to Get To Pongour Falls

Pongour Waterfall is about 48km south of Da Lat and will take about a 1-hour drive to reach. Moreover, the best way to reach this waterfall is via a scooter. However, you can also take a tour if you wish.

Not to mention, I highly recommend making use of Google Maps to reach this location. It’s very straightforward and a reasonably easy drive to get there. However, you will need to travel along motorways and highways with vehicles travelling fast and close by you. So this is best for experienced riders.

Upon arrival at the location, you will need to pay a parking fee of around 10,000 VND and then 20,000 VND for the entrance fee. This is a small fee for the insane beauty that you will soon get to experience.

Finally, I recommend allowing around 3 hours for the entire day trip. This includes 2 hours worth of travel, and 1 hour exploring the waterfall.

Opening Hours: 7 AM – 5 PM Daily
Address: Pongour Waterfall, Thôn Tân Nghĩa, Đức Trọng, Lâm Đồng

Information on the Waterfall

Pongour Falls is practically in the middle of nowhere. There isn’t much else around, aside from farms and rice fields. However, there is still a reasonable attraction of visitors and plenty of people filtering through the area.

Furthermore, the water flow is actually controlled by hydroelectric machinery from the Da Nhim Dam. Therefore, it’s definitely nowhere near as impressive as it could be. You’ll notice the water faintly trickles over the tiers, still providing a beautiful effect.

The Pongour Waterfall stands at over 100 metres wide and about 40 metres high. It’s one of the bigger waterfalls in Vietnam and is definitely one of the most beautiful.

Hiking to the Falls

Upon parking your scooter at the parking lot, you will then need to make the journey down to the base of the falls. Follow the path heading down to head in the correct direction. Additionally, you will need to walk for about 15 minutes from the parking lot to reach the base of the falls.

The waterfall is easily accessible by a large path that takes you down to the base of the falls. Alternatively, you can take the steep and narrow route for a much quicker way to reach the waterfall.

I ended up taking the steep and narrow path both ways to save some time.

Finally, you will need some confidence to walk along the small metal beams to reach the base of the falls. Once you’ve made it to the other side, there are plenty of rocks to walk along and you can find a nice spot to perch up while enjoying the views.

On the way back up, I recommend looking out for the small shelter. From here, you will get to enjoy stunning views over the top of the waterfall. It’s a really beautiful spot, and I’m glad I stopped here to enjoy a different perspective of the falls.

Tips for Visiting

There are a number of things that you should keep in mind while visiting this waterfall, and I’m going to give you a handful of tips.

  • Pack plenty of water. The waterfall is out in the blaring sun, so you will find yourself powering through your water supply.
  • Wear appropriate shoes. You need to wear comfortable runners or closed-toe shoes as there is a small amount of hiking necessary to reach the waterfall. Don’t attempt it in barefoot or flip-flops/thongs.
  • There isn’t really a safe place to swim, and I wouldn’t advise swimming in the water. There are loads of rocks and the tides may change unexpectedly.
  • You can wander along the tiers of the falls. However, I wouldn’t recommend doing so as you may slip and fall.
  • Wear a hat and sunscreen. Especially if you get burnt easily! This location offers minimal cover and you’re likely to get burnt.
