Ada Tree Walk: Travel and Visitor Tips

The Ada Tree Walk is one of the most beautiful walks within the Yarra Valley Region. Moreover, you can enjoy stunning cool temperate rainforest while exploring this beautiful location in nature.

Ada Tree is a magnificent Giant Mountain Ash tree and is an awesome attraction for any visitor. Besides, there are loads of other old trees that you can enjoy when wandering through the forest.

Not to mention, this walk is dog-friendly! Therefore, you’d be silly to not take the chance for an enjoyable road trip with your dog to this stunning rainforest in Victoria.

How Big Is the Ada Tree?

Ada Tree is a Giant Mountain Ash tree towering over the rainforest at a whopping 76 metres tall. And, it’s one of the tallest trees in Victoria.

Furthermore, it has a girth of about 15 metres which is at about chest height. It’s fascinatingly large and the base of this tree is what determines the age.

Moreover, this beauty is over 300 years old and is a pretty epic sight to see. Not to mention, its root system sprawls out around an area of half an acre; A pretty significant amount of space to cover!

Where Is the Ada Tree?

This magnificent giant mountain ash tree is located within the Yarra Valley region of Victoria. Moreover, it is part of the Ada area and is closeby to Noojee.

Also, if you’re interested in driving from Noojee, you’ll be looking at a 45-minute drive. Otherwise, if you’re driving from Melbourne, it’ll take around 2 hours of driving.

I think this adventure is an excellent addition to those on a road trip to Victoria or those heading further east towards Noojee, Baw Baw, Marysville and Eildon. It’s a great location to add to your road trip!

Is the Ada Tree Worth Visiting?

Yes, the Ada Tree is definitely worth visiting. It is a bit of a drive from Melbourne, but the tree and rainforest truly are spectacular.

I think this would make an excellent day trip for families, couples or singles. I thoroughly enjoyed my time when visiting and my dog loved exploring the area too.

Information on the Walk

When you are ready to begin the walk, you will come upon a small shelter with information on the area including the walking trails, hiking information and forest ecology. I think it’s an excellent idea to take a minute to read through the notes on the board.

Besides, this lets you know what to look out for when completing the hike. Moreover, there are some pretty cool fungi along the way and some beautiful native plants to discover.

I recommend wearing some hiking boots or shoes you don’t mind getting a little muddy. Many areas of this track are constantly muddy and you will likely end up with some dirty shoes!

Finally, the track is well-signed and very easy to follow. Unexperienced hikers will have no issue finding the trail and staying on track.

Who Is the Tree Named After?

The tree is said to be named after Ada Mortimore. She was a local resident who knew the surveyor. She was lucky enough to have this beautiful tree named after her.

The Experience

The Ada Tree walk is reasonably easy and I highly recommend it for people of all fitness levels. You will begin strolling along compacted dirt paths and soon come upon a metal bridge.

From here, you will continue wandering the forest and get to explore different trees. Moreover, these include myrtle beeches, southern sassafras and of course the impressive giant mountain ash trees.

Not to mention, you will come upon some stunning native plants and some impressive fungi along trees, logs and the forest floor. Be sure to take some time and keep an eye out for all of these incredible bits of nature.

You will need to continue wandering and follow the path until you reach the magnificent Ada Tree. Then, you can head up to the viewing platform to enjoy standing beneath the giant beauty, or you can use the boardwalk to check out some other parts of the forest.

Be sure to check out the information on the large iron board and then feel free to head back the same way to get back to your vehicle.

Finally, there are some picnic tables, a shelter, and toilets that you can make use of. Therefore, you may like to bring some lunch or snacks along. However, please take all rubbish home with you to dispose of it thoughtfully.

An Awesome Dog-Friendly Attraction

There aren’t loads of dog-friendly walks within the Yarra Valley region so I was pleasantly surprised to find this gem of a location.

The walk feels very safe to take a dog along with you and my dog thoroughly enjoyed exploring parts of the forest and smelling different things.

However, keep in mind, there is a metal bridge with holes that you need to cross. A number of dogs don’t really enjoy crossing the bridge as their feet can get stuck in it. If you have the ability to carry your dog across, it may be a good idea.

So, that’s something to keep in mind prior to visiting as it would be very unfortunate to reach the location and have your dog not want to cross the bridge… especially if they’re too big for you to carry!

Nonetheless, my dog and I got the entire walk to ourselves and had plenty of time to enjoy the beautiful forest. I highly recommend this location for anyone with a dog!

In conclusion, the Ada Tree walk is definitely one of the nicest strolls within the Yarra Valley region. It’s a stunning place to explore and it feels very far off the beaten track.

It truly feels like you’ve emerged deep within a forest where a beautiful part of nature continues to flourish. I definitely think this location is worth a visit for any and all travellers.
