- Crystal Cascades
One of the best Cairns hidden gems is the Crystal Cascades. Moreover, these rainforest waterfalls offer a stunning swimming location with numerous waterholes.
Firstly, the crystal cascades are a great escape from the tropical climate of Cairns. Although there are no pets allowed, so you’ll have to leave your furry friend at home. Additionally, there are electric barbeques and toilet facilities, but please take home any rubbish with you.
Furthermore, it takes roughly 18-minutes to drive from the Cairns city centre. And, the swimming holes are a 270m walk from the car park, while the waterfalls are a 1.2km trek.
Finally, discover the multiple small waterfalls, granite boulders surrounding the water and enjoy the pure tranquillity of the area.

- Walshs Pyramid
Head to Walsh’s Pyramid for a challenging hike in a spectacular location. Furthermore, the walking track to the lookout is a 6km return hike. Not to mention, the trail is considered difficult and takes around 4-5 hours to complete.
Nonetheless, the views are magnificent at the top, considering the elevation gain is 898m. Alternatively, view this pyramid-like formation from afar, specifically along Bruce Highway. This iconic location looks fantastic heading towards the mountain.

In order to reach the trail, you will need to drive to Lake Morris Road, which is a long and winding road, then proceed to follow it for roughly 10km. It usually takes around 20 minutes to reach the starting destination.
After driving along this road, you will reach a metal gate, and there will be a grassy area. Next, find a safe place to park your vehicle and begin the 5km return hike.

Isabella Falls is a 20-minute drive from the Cairns city centre and is easily worth the trek. This Cairns hidden gem offers various swimming holes and multiple levels of waterfalls to enjoy.
Firstly, you will need to use the rope climb to access the waterfall. So, keep your hands free and take your time pulling yourself up. Also, be sure to wear protective and closed toe footwear as you wouldn’t want to stub your toe.
