5 Best Markets in Canggu

Samadi Sunday Market

The Samadi Sunday Market is the ultimate place for fresh produce and locally-made food products. Moreover, this market is still quite under the radar but is the perfect spot for some fresh fruit and vegetables.

This market has a fantastic vibe, and there is a main store built onto the front. Be sure to wander through the store as there are loads of things on offer daily!

Additionally, you can pick up a lovely fresh loaf of bread and some tasty jarred preserves. I think this is a fantastic option if you are staying in a villa or living in Bali!

Not to mention, this store has zero-waste options which is an absolute game changer in South East Asia. I think it’s important to support this movement as we reduce our consumption of plastic and single-use goods!

What to Buy: Locally grown goods and health food products
Opening Hours: Sunday 8 AM – 2 PM
Address: no, Jl. Canggu Padang Linjong No.39, Canggu, Kec. Kuta Utara, Kabupaten Badung, Bali 80351, Indonesia

La Brisa Sunday Market

The La Brisa Sunday Market is an excellent place to shop for some local handmade goods. Furthermore, there are lots of options for organic handmade body products and numerous other local remedies.

There is a nice range of vendors, and you can pick up a fantastic deal at one of these lovely little stalls. However, I recommend getting here on opening time to ensure you get first dibs! Afterwards, head into the beach club for some lunch.

Otherwise, grab a drink and some locally-made food to enjoy from one of the stalls. Finally, why not try some new fruit that you’ve never seen before? You never know what you may like!

Love Anchor

Love Anchor is a large retail space with multiple markets inside. Moreover, this is one of the most expensive places to shop in terms of Canggu markets, however, you may still be able to snap up a good deal.

Not to mention, this market is highly rated and loved by loads of people. You’ll notice what I’m talking about when you discover the swarms of people that flood the markets for hours on end.

Additionally, this market gets so popular that they need a large parking space across the road. So, park your vehicle in the dirt patch and pay the small parking fee needed to go for a shop. Besides, this may be a good opportunity to grab some lunch or brekkie in one of the nearby cafes.

Nonetheless, there is a huge range of goods on offer. The stalls that always grab my attention are the silverware jewellery stores that are right at the front of the market. There are so many beautiful rings on offer, and once you purchase a few, the owners will be happy to do a deal.

Furthermore, there are loads of clothing and beachwear stores. And, I think that these are the best items to purchase here. You will discover loads of beautifully made t-shirts, skirts, pants and so much more.

So, take your time wandering the many stalls to find yourself a new clothing piece!

What to Buy: Clothing and Beachwear
Opening Hours: Everyday 8 AM – 10 PM
Address: Jl. Pantai Batu Bolong No.56, Canggu, Kec. Kuta Utara, Kabupaten Badung, Bali 80351, Indonesia

Bali Niki Natural Art Market

The Bali Niki Natural Art Market is one of the best markets in Canggu offering a huge range of items. From beautiful clothing to stunning homewares and ornaments, you can find some really cool items at this market.

I recommend taking some time wandering the aisles as this is a reasonably large market and picking up a few deals along the way. Additionally, try your hand at bartering. There may be a couple of stores selling the same thing, so try to haggle the price a little lower (without lowballing) to get a solid deal.

What to Buy: Homewares, ornaments and souvenirs
Opening Hours: Everyday 8 AM – 9 PM
Address: 84WG+MXQ, Canggu, Kuta Utara, Badung Regency, Bali, Indonesia

baliniki treasure market

Treasure Baliniki Market

The Treasure Baliniki Market is one of the best under-the-radar markets in Canggu. However, it’s on one of the main roads, but very few people tend to stop and have a look, surprisingly enough!

I’ve spent a fair bit of time wandering this market and I’ve picked up a number of great items. The market isn’t huge, but you can still find plenty of great things for an excellent deal.

There is enough parking for about 12 scooters out the front of the market, though, I don’t think you’ll have many issues in snagging some space. Once you’ve parked wander around the stalls and be wary of the locals intrigued by what you may purchase.

As soon as you’ve made a purchase, many of them will try to bring you into their stall. Just take things slowly and respectfully and don’t get their hopes up if there isn’t something you want from them.

What to Buy: Jewellery and clothing
Opening Hours: Everyday 9 AM – 10 PM
Address: Jalan Short cut No.7, Canggu, Kec. Kuta Utara, Kabupaten Badung, Bali 80361, Indonesia

How to Get to the Canggu Markets

The traffic in Canggu is on a whole other level. I’ve been to many places, but Canggu traffic is total madness. So, I wouldn’t recommend taking a car or taxi to visit these markets as parking is limited, the roads are narrow and it’s extremely slow, which means you will spend more money.

So, I think that the best way to reach all of these markets is via a scooter! Moreover, you can hire one yourself and then shop at your own pace as you wander around, or, feel free to ride a Grab taxi bike. Besides, the fares are cheap and it’s a great way to get around if you aren’t comfortable riding by yourself.

Tips for Visiting the Markets

There is a range of things that I advise you to keep in mind when shopping at these Canggu markets. It’s important to shop respectfully and safely so that everyone walks away at the end of the day happily. Besides, a lot of these locals are doing it much tougher than those of us from Western countries.

Firstly, is that you are going to receive prices that are extremely hiked up. So, the general rule of thumb is to minus the price by 50%. Say, for example, a vendor asks for 180,000 Indonesian Rupiah for a t-shirt. That price is extremely high, so you can ask for a lower price of 90,000 Rupiah.

Then, they will ask for something around 140,000, which is when you may come to a final price of around 120,000. Take note, that you will receive much better deals when purchasing a number of items from one seller.

Secondly, I wouldn’t advise getting overly excited or showing too much interest in the stallholder’s items. As soon as they know that you really want something, they will be much less likely to take lower prices. Show a little bit of interest, but take things nice and slow.

Thirdly, smile a lot! Bartering should be a fun experience and everyone should walk away feeling like they got a great deal. Besides, this is part of the fun when coming to Bali, and it’s a great way to interact with and support some of the locals.

Finally, I highly recommend bringing your own bags to store goods to avoid plastic waste. We are all aware of the plastic problem, so finding any way to avoid more plastic is the way to go! So, pack a reusable shopping bag with you to load up on some new goods!

All in all, remember to have fun, be respectful of the locals, greet them nicely and enjoy yourself.
